PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
This intensive three-day course covers how to use digital still cameras and digital video camera equipment for law enforcement purposes. Digital Imaging has several distinct advantages for those involved in drug and gang related investigations. Perhaps the most important is the ability to rapidly transfer suspect photos and intelligence information from unit to unit or from one agency to another. The course also covers various file formats and how to preserve the integrity of original image, achieve, download and transmit digital images.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
- Participants learn how to use cameras purchased by their agencies to document everything from minor automobile crashes to a homicide scene.
- The course introduces the participants to digital enhancement using the most current desktop software.
- The course will stress "hands-on" shooting exercises beginning on the 1st morning of class and continuing with classes during late night sessions.
- Participants will be instructed on "low-light" environments and photography.
- Participants will be instructed on use of artificial light to illuminate crime scenes during dark hours and how to link digital equipment to night scopes.
Participants are encouraged to bring the digital imaging equipment issued by their respective agency including digital still and digital video cameras, storage media, computer disks, batteries, chargers, adapters and cables. They should also bring any flash equipment compatible with their digital imaging equipment. Two participants may share a camera.
WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE:
This course assumes that participants are familiar with all aspects of investigations including surveillance, search warrants and wireless transmitters. Participants should be advised that this is an intensive course, which will stress particle photography exercises in all kinds of weather and at night.
