More and more video recording is being required during an interview or interrogation. It can make or break your case. When used correctly, it will increase convictions if your investigators are competent and comfortable using it.
For most, video recording creates a challenge. many officers have resisted videotaping interviews. We have discouraged its use for 30 years in our classes. Most will employ creative avoidance: “I don’t even know how to turn it on”, “it makes the suspects too uncomfortable”, “it gives defense attorneys ammunition in court”. The real challenge is to make our investigators want to use it.
